Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I know whether I need a psychiatrist or a therapist or both?

A. In general, a therapist would be well-suited to helping you make this decision. Therefore, it is recommended that you make your initial appointment with a therapist in order to assist you with establishing an appropriate and effective course of treatment.

INSURANCE

Can I Use My Insurance?

For those of you with insurance and who choose to utilize their insurance benefits, special requirements may need to be met. (Read below on why you may not want to use your insurance coverage). Many insurance companies require you to see a provider who is covered specifically by your insurance plan.  When you call our office, you will be asked the name of your insurance company.  One of our office staff will then refer you to a specific therapist in our group who works best with your presenting problem and is also covered by your insurance.  Should you decide to use your insurance, we will be happy to file the claim to your insurance company on your behalf.

As there are literally hundreds of insurance companies with numerous plans, a particular therapist may be on one plan covered by your insurance company and may not be on another.  Also, it is possible that your particular insurance policy does not include benefits for psychological services.  Therefore, we will be happy to assist you in determining if a particular therapist is on your plan and what your insurance benefits are by calling your insurance company for you.

Why I May NOT Want to Use My Insurance?

More and more people are choosing not to use their insurance coverage over privacy concerns. When you utilize your insurance benefits, the insurance company has a right to request your records as well as speak with your therapist regarding your treatment. Often, the insurance companies require their nurses to review your case and determine if you are progressing far enough in your treatment and whether they should continue to pay for therapy. Due to clients not wanting their personal business to be told to insurance companies who keep databases on their treatment, clients often feel that they would rather pay for services out of pocket rather than expose themselves to unnecessary privacy concerns as well as having their treatment dictated by a nurse rather than by their doctor or Master's Level clinician.

Whether or not you use your insurance is a personal decision that should be made after careful thought. Most of our clinicans are on most insurance plans. However, if you plan to use your insurance, it is important to make sure that the particular clinician you plan to see is a participating provider on your particular insurance plan. We will be glad to help you make that determination when you call.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IT IS ULTIMATELY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW THE TERMS OF YOUR INSURANCE PLAN AND WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE SEEING A PARTICIPATING PROVIDER. YOUR INSURANCE PLAN IS A CONTRACT BETWEEN YOU AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY. ANY DISPUTES YOU HAVE WITH THE BENEFITS QUOTED AND/OR PAID BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY MUST BE DEALT WITH DIRECTLY WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY. ALTHOUGH WE MAY ATTEMPT TO ASSIST YOU IN ANY DISPUTES, IT IS NOT OUR RESPONSBILITY AND YOU WILL BE HELD FINANCIALLY LIABLE SUBJECT TO ANY CONDITIONS BASED ON THE PARTICIPATING PROVIDER AGREEMENT IN PLACE BETWEEN THE TREATING CLINICIAN AND YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY.
